CHEMISTRY
ULTRAMARINE VIOLETS are made by chemical conversion process of selective particle size Ultramarine Blues.
The overall chemical structure is not changed, but there are significant changes in the chromatic values. By Chemical modification, the red blue coordinates in the colour system changes, which results in Ultramarine violet of either bluer or redder undertone. However, it retains its excellent chemical and functional performance of Ultramarine blue.
The rosy violet pigment is a derivative of synthetic ultramarine blue, produced through a process involving the treatment of ultramarine blue with Sal ammoniac or dry hydrochloric acid gas at high temperatures. This results in the formation of sodium chloride, which is then removed by washing.
In terms of risks, there are no significant hazards associated with this pigment and it is non-combustible.
Regarding its physical and chemical properties, the rosy violet pigment may discolour when exposed to weak acids or sulfur fumes. It is insoluble in water and has fine, transparent violet grains mixed with deep blue grains.
The pigment is isotropic and has an ASTM light fastness rating of 1, indicating excellent resistance to fading. Its refractive index is 1.56.
